ST JOHN AMBULANCE
In 2011, DStevens began work on the St John’s Ambulance Redevelopment in Gisborne. The most challenging aspect of the build was maintaining the project was completed on time and within budget. St John had set a deadline for completion and there was little room to move - as St John were leasing a building fixed term with no time extensions available. Early consultation revealed the government provided no funding to St John for the buildings it operates from and a Local Area Committee was tasked to raise the money for the project.
One challenge the committee faced while raising funds for the project was the number of other worthy charitable projects taking place at the time – including the Rescue Helicopter, and Christchurch Earthquake Relief. DStevens was mindful of the funding issues and aimed to meet the deadline by carefully managing all site progress and limiting any obstacles that may interrupt work. We kept tight control of all project costs and identified any savings that could be made to keep within the budget. Subsequently the building was completed on time, to budget, with no compromise made on the high-quality finish and integrity of the building. This project was awarded Commercial Project of the Year in 2013.
