Eastland Rescue Hangar

In early 2013 DStevens was commissioned by The Eastland Rescue Helicopter Trust to construct a new hangar for its Gisborne Airport-based rescue helicopter. The resulting building provides a large hangar and adjoining helipad for the rescue chopper, along with offices, staff accommodation and lecture facilities. It replaces the previous helicopter base a short distance away. "Where we were operating from was sub-standard but you have to learn to walk before you can run," said Mr Willock at the official opening ceremony. "We also wanted to build our profile and this building certainly does that. "We are looking forward to going from strength to strength as an organisation." Mr Willock thanked the Lion Foundation, the Eastland Community Trust and the J.N. Williams Memorial Trust for their support for the helicopter over the years.

Hangar project chairman Murray Ferris said the process had been a "wonderful ride" and it was a special day to have the building finished and open. "We'd like to pay tribute to the builders and subcontractors involved. Particular thanks to Francis Yates and Peter Stevens. Special thanks also to all who donated money to the project, or donated 'in kind' with their time and materials," Mr Ferris said. The Eastland Rescue Helicopter Hangar is the result of collaboration between DStevens and the many subcontractors and community groups who were involved in the realisation of this new building.

The building was blessed by Charlie Pera and the Ilminster Intermediate kapa haka group.
