Education – 2024
Completed in 2024, the seismic upgrade and renovation of Te Hīnātore, the hall building at Lytton High School, was a significant project involving the installation of new structural bracing to enhance earthquake resilience, exterior recladding with durable weatherboards, and the installation of energy-efficient windows and doors. Internally, the hall was transformed with a vibrant redesign by Architects 44, complemented by the artwork of Simon Lardelli, creating an inspiring multifunctional space for the school and community.
The renovation of Te Hīnātore at Lytton High School involved comprehensive upgrades designed to enhance both the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the building. Key aspects of the project included:
Seismic Upgrades: Installation of new structural bracing to improve earthquake resilience, ensuring the safety and longevity of the building.
Exterior Recladding: Complete recladding with new weatherboards, providing a fresh, durable finish that complements the school's existing architecture.
Energy Efficiency: Installation of new windows and doors to enhance thermal performance and energy efficiency.
Interior Refurbishment: A vibrant interior redesign by Architects 44, featuring mahi toi (artwork) by artist Simon Lardelli, transforming the hall into an inspiring multifunctional space.
The renovated hall, Te Hīnātore, now serves as a versatile space for Lytton High School and the wider Gisborne community. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of activities, from school assemblies and performances to community gatherings and events, providing a comfortable and uplifting environment for all users.
The successful completion of the Te Hīnātore renovation is a testament to DStevens' dedication to quality construction. This project also reinforces our long-standing relationship with Lytton High School, built over the last 25 years of collaboration.
