DStevens Maintains 100% SiteWise Health & Safety Rating in 2026

DStevens has achieved a 100% Gold SiteWise rating for 2026, receiving full marks across every area of this year’s independent health and safety assessment.

We have undertaken SiteWise assessments every year since 2017. Over that time, the process has become an important part of how we review our systems, test what is working, and identify where we can improve.

Our results have changed significantly over that period. After recording 75% in 2018, we undertook a focused review of our health and safety systems and processes. We looked at how risks were being identified and managed, how information was being recorded, and where our workflows could be improved.

The results lifted steadily from there, reaching 97% in 2021 and 100% in 2022. We have maintained a 100% result every year since.

An Independent Check

SiteWise is a contractor prequalification system developed by Site Safe New Zealand. The annual assessment reviews areas including health and safety policies, worker involvement, training, incident management, risk management, workplace inspections, subcontractor management, and worker health.

For us, the assessment is useful because it gives us an independent view of systems we work with every day.

It helps us check that what we have in place is still working, highlights areas that need attention, and keeps us accountable. It also gives us a reason each year to look closely at how health and safety is being managed across the business.

Construction brings a wide range of risks, from workshop machinery and hazardous substances through to site work, working at height, and subcontractor activities. Good systems help our people understand those risks, manage them properly, and raise concerns when something needs attention.

DStevens Managing Director Peter Stevens said the result reflects the work that has gone into the system over a number of years.

“It is great to get 100% again, but the score is only part of it. The main reason we keep doing SiteWise is to have someone independent look at our systems and tell us where we are doing well, and where we can improve.

“We have come a long way since we started the process in 2017. Over that time, we have made a lot of changes to the way we manage health and safety, and the annual review helps keep us focused on what matters.

“Construction will always involve risk. Our job is to make sure our people have good systems around them, understand those risks, and feel comfortable speaking up when something does not look right.”

Still Reviewing, Still Improving

A 100% result does not mean there is nothing left to do. Each assessment gives us something to take away, whether that is a change to a process, a clearer way of recording information, or simply confirmation that something is working well.

We will keep using the annual SiteWise assessment in that way, as an external check on our systems and a prompt to keep improving them.
